With each edition, the Festival das Cataratas strives to be an event more committed to sustainability. Aiming to raise society's awareness of the importance of environmental preservation, the event organizers, together with partners, launched the "Movimento Junho Verde (Green June Movement)" in 2018.
June, because it is the month when the Environment is internationally celebrated through individual and collective socio-environmental initiatives. It is a way to create positive impacts on the planet. Tourism, as a key sector for the city of Foz do Iguaçu, acknowledges the Festival das Cataratas as playing a vital role in addressing environmental issues.
Throughout the month, various establishments join the cause by lighting their facades in green. This “new look” could be seen in hotels, bars, restaurants, and local businesses. In addition to the special lighting, the Movimento Junho Verde (Green June Movement) includes other initiatives at the Festival das Cataratas:
Key initiatives developed
• Awarding the “Most Sustainable Exhibitor” Seal to exhibitors who design their stands following sustainability principles;
• Signing a letter of intent by event partners, committing to implementing environmental actions in their businesses;
• Event printed materials and brochures are produced using recycled materials, and the distributed bags are made from PET bottles as raw material.
